The Fear of Success

It is not so much the fear of failure that creates the incredible inertia in our lives but rather the fear of success. As crazy as this may seems, most of the budding Entrepreneurs I see each month have this inner feeling of fear that says, “What if I succeed?” This causes the body and mind to reject the changes ahead and rather focus on the current status quo where we know what the lifestyle is and how we cope with it, despite the failings.

Liken this with a sports team. Maybe even our own SA Cricket boys. A Team or individual will subconsciously falter in the finals or the last leg of a race because the idea of having to win and do all the winners agenda like press interviews, trophy receiving and post match analysis is just too daunting for the mind to comprehend so we slow down a bit and allow those who can do that sort of stuff to do it and we go home, inward knowing that we could have won but did not and we are happy. Sound familiar?
So back to work, we need to learn how to win; we need the mindset of a champion and practice the speech and lifestyle before winning. Go and stand on the podium and raise your arms like a winner, then go and do what it takes to win. Your team is right with you, all the way.
